Through a marvellous tv series by @charlotteccaspers I was introduced to the work of @anna.atkins.cyano . A British botanist, born in 1799, who saw the potential of the cyanotype process for documenting plants with scientific precision. She began by placing dried algae, ferns, and other botanical specimens directly onto sensitized paper, exposing them to light, and then washing the paper to fix the image. A method giving an enchanting Prussian blue negative that inspired me to make these 2 poppy versions that I would love to put on skin. As a lover of botanical art and a feminist, I feel incredibly honored to meet and learn from Wil Wessel. For over 25 years, she worked at Wageningen University as a scientific botanical illustrator—a craft that’s sadly on the verge of disappearing. Thank you @fanneke_de_leeuw - I love this combination of a kingfisher (ijsvogel) with cosmea flowers (birth flowers of October) With a subtle dash of colour this tattoo remains quite soft and gentle. Since the launch of Chat GPT it seems to me that it is getting easier for everyone to find the meaning of particular tattoo subjects. On the other hand, it seems like this AI is generating an endless stream of meanings. Like the old fortune tellers: just shout out as many options as possible untill you find that someone is picking whatever suits them. To me, this way of giving meaning to a tattoo is losing its strength. At this point, you can find ANY meaning that suits you. It is all there. On the other hand: it is all there. Take your pick. The new REACH inks vary in quality and I still need time to monitor how they heal. The Noble Pink of Kuro Sumi did not do very well over +2 years on this particular tattoo. It really does take a lot of trust to have an artist cover up your old tattoo. It has already been an unsatisfying experience to not feel ok with a tattoo on your body. And then you need to take another leap of faith in this second attempt. In this case it also took some very painful laser sessions and quite some back and forth on the flower that we were going to use to make this old lion cub “dissappear”.
